Empty Tome

A floating grimoire that unleashes chaotic magic to purge the undead horde.

Empty Tome

The Empty Tome is a mysterious, floating spellbook that serves as one of the core magical weapons in Vampire Survivors. It hovers near the survivor, automatically casting random spells at nearby enemies without requiring any player input or aiming. Unlike other items that deal direct damage through projectiles or area effects, the Empty Tome's power lies in its unpredictability and synergy with specific character traits and evolutions.

Lore & Background

Scholars in the lore-heavy corners of the world suggest that the Tome's randomness is not a flaw but a feature designed to adapt to any threat. By casting whatever spell is most effective in the moment—whether fire, ice, or lightning—it ensures that no single enemy type can dominate the battlefield. It is often found in the hands of survivors who have embraced chaos over control, trusting fate to deliver justice through magical variance.

In Their Own Story

The fog rolled thick over the graveyard as the survivor stumbled upon a chest half-buried in moss. Inside lay not gold, but a book with blank pages that seemed to ripple like water. As soon as it was touched, the book lifted into the air, glowing with a faint, shifting light. A nearby ghoul lunged, only to be vaporized by a sudden burst of fire from nowhere. The survivor smiled, realizing they were no longer alone; the Empty Tome had chosen its master.

Reader's Guide

The Empty Tome functions by automatically selecting and casting random spells at enemies within its area of effect. It does not require aiming, making it ideal for beginners or as a secondary damage source. To upgrade it, players must collect Golden Eggs found in chests or dropped by bosses; each level increases the Area (range) of the spellcasting zone. At max level, the Tome covers a significantly larger radius around the survivor, allowing it to hit more enemies simultaneously with its chaotic spells. However, its damage output is generally lower than dedicated projectile weapons unless evolved. To evolve the Empty Tome into Unholy Vespers, the player must possess both the fully upgraded Empty Tome and the Witch Cure item. Once evolved, Unholy Vespers transforms the weapon's behavior entirely. Instead of random spells, it summons a swarm of spectral bats that track enemies and deal massive damage over time. This evolution drastically increases survivability and crowd control, turning the Tome into a primary offensive tool capable of clearing dense hordes with ease.
