Cavelight
Descend into the abyss where ancient shadows rise and hope flickers like a dying candle.
Cavelight is a pivotal location within the Vampire Survivors universe, serving as the primary setting for the game's initial chapters and the starting point for many of its most iconic characters. It represents a subterranean realm where ancient horrors have been woken from their slumber, forcing survivors to fight through endless waves of undead creatures in a desperate bid for escape. This cavernous expanse is not merely a backdrop but a character in itself, shifting and evolving as the player progresses deeper into its dark heart.

Lore & Background
Deep beneath the surface of the known world lies Cavelight, a labyrinthine network of tunnels carved by forgotten civilizations and now reclaimed by the dead. It is said that this place acts as a natural barrier, sealing away entities too dangerous for the living world to endure. However, when the seal weakens or is broken, the darkness spills out, turning the caves into a hunting ground for vampires, ghouls, and other nightmarish beasts. The architecture of Cavelight speaks of a time before history, with crumbling pillars and glowing crystals that seem to pulse with a malevolent energy.
In Their Own Story
The air in Cavelight is thick with the scent of damp earth and old blood. A lone survivor, weapon raised, steps over the skeletal remains of those who came before. Above, the faint echo of dripping water masks the scuttling of claws on stone. Suddenly, a shadow detaches itself from the wall—a Ghoul, eyes glowing with hunger. The survivor doesn't hesitate; the relic in their hand flares with light, cutting through the gloom as another wave surges forward from the darkness.
Reader's Guide
The narrative arc begins immediately upon entering Cavelight, where the player assumes the role of a survivor trapped in an endless horde scenario. The primary objective is survival: stay alive long enough to reach specific time milestones or defeat key bosses that guard the deeper sections of the cave. As the run progresses, the environment shifts subtly, introducing new enemy types and environmental hazards that test the player's build strategy. Reaching certain time thresholds unlocks the ability to confront the stage boss, often a massive entity representing the corruption of the area. To trigger an ending or complete the narrative beat for Cavelight, players must survive until the timer hits its maximum limit or destroy the final guardian. Success allows access to new characters and areas, while failure results in a return to the surface, leaving the secrets of the cave intact for another attempt.
